The glittery pink poster made me do it!
Although I’d been meaning to go for a S.W.E.A.T 1000 workout for nearly six months, I was never able to find the right time. Then Women’s Day, in all its timely perfection, came along; every one of the S.W.E.A.T studios was holding a special class in honour of the holiday. After booking a spot at the Sea Point branch (with relative ease) all that was left to do was wait, a little impatiently, for the day!
What Is It?
S.W.E.A.T 1000 is a specialised workout that combines a range of different training techniques and delivers them in an hour-long session suitable for people of all fitness levels. There’s a special rate for students, no joining fee and a complimentary first class!
I was a little underwhelmed when I arrived, but only because I’d imagined I’d be stepping right into the blue studio that had become synonymous with the class in my head. After filling in a form and checking in, I joined the rest of the group in the studio where, I was happy to note, most had adhered to the day’s colour code of pink.
After a brief, but comprehensive beginner explanation, the class began. A good workout is one that sucks the life out of you while simultaneously revealing strength you never knew you had and that’s exactly what I got from S.W.E.A.T 1000. This hour-long session is one that cannot be approached half-heartedly.
Rotating between intense treadmill segments and even more challenging floor work, the very structure of the class is highly charged making it impossible to get bored or distracted. The music, provided by a live DJ, is loud and encouraging as are the instructors who coordinate the busy class seamlessly. Combine that with laser and disco lighting and you’ve got an invigorating and unforgettable gym experience.
I was both relieved and saddened when the class came to an end. I can honestly say it was one of the most intense, unusual and enjoyable workouts I have ever completed. I personally believe that one of the key elements of Women’s Day is celebrating and enhancing the strength and invincibility of women. S.W.E.A.T 1000 delivered a class that left me feeling indomitable.
